The myicourse platforms offer a high degree of accountability, if this is desired. The first level of accountability arises via the recording of the time spent on any particular course. If the author of the course, for example, elects to require “10 minutes,” the running cumulative time is automatically tracked and recorded by Myicourse. Even if the student runs through the course as fast as they can, the student will be prevented from taking the test until “10 minutes” time has been spent with the presented material. Some students will attempt to “game the system” thinking that by leaving the screen on and walking away, this will allow the recorded time to accumulate. The myicourse platform allows the administrators of the site to determine how long the system will be allowed to go without keystrokes before “timing out.” If the administrator elects to, the system can be programmed to require keystrokes every 30 seconds (or any other time desired). In the event of “timing out,” upon re-log in, the student’s progress will be “bookmarked.”
Another accountability feature offered by myicourse is the ability to affix a document, video or PDF at the end of the test. If the student successfully completes the test, a contract, notes or instructions can be printed out. If the highest degree of accountability is desired, the faculty member who authored the course would elect to “time” the course, limit the time when no keystrokes are performed and then create a meaningful test. If all this is accomplished, then a contract (for example) could be produced, which would then receive a “wet signature.” The mere fact that the contract was able to be printed out means the student took the required time and passed the test. Again, since the myicourse platform records all test scores and results, in the event there is a need to provide proof, it is a mere print button away.
